Egyptian singer Ruby is under investigation for tax evasion.

The Egyptian Tax Commission claims Ruby tried to evade paying her taxes by failing to report her earnings from all of her entertainment activities, and by not filing her tax returns. Several concerts, films, and albums are on the list of unreported sources of income.

An Egyptian court gave the Commission the green light to begin its investigation to determine what she owes.

Ruby is about to return to the spotlight after a year long absence, according to her business manager Egyptian producer and director Sharif Sabri.

According to the London based daily, Dar Al Hayat, Sharif said Ruby’s album will be ready for release in the coming weeks and he intends on filming new music videos for all eight songs on the album. Ruby has already headed to Sharm El Sheikh to film the first video for the song “Al Mani Khair,� also the album title.

Sharif explained that Ruby’s absence was due to her preoccupation with her final year studying at the university where she is earning her bachelor’s degree.

Ruby’s original name is Rania Hussein Mohammad Tawfiq.
